Assistant Principal Arrested for DUI
School officials are supposed to serve as good examples for children. Students often look up to their teachers and principals, so when these role models get into legal trouble, it can be a tough situation to deal with.
An assistant principal at Winter Springs High School was recently arrested for DUI. The 50-year-old man was booked into jail after he refused to submit to a field sobriety test or Breathalyzer test.
The incident happened just after midnight on June 30 at Mulligan’s, a bar in Wekiva Springs.
A Seminole County deputy responded to the location for a trespass complaint.
A bartender had asked the assistant principal to leave the bar, which he did. However, the man had ridden his e-bike to the bar and was warned by a deputy that he could not ride his bike home due to his high level of intoxication. He was offered a courtesy ride home, but refused.
A short time later, the same deputy saw the man buy a 12-pack of beer from a nearby convenience store. He then put the alcohol on the front of the e-bike and rode it eastbound on State Road 434. The deputy stopped the man for not having a front light and for crossing the eastbound lanes outside the traffic signal.
The deputy reminded the man that he was told not to ride his bike due to possible impairment. The man told the deputy he would walk his bike home.
However, during this traffic stop, the man showed signs of intoxication. He would sway while standing and smelled of alcohol. He also exhibited slurred speech and had glossy eyes. The deputy asked the man to perform field sobriety tests, but he refused.
The man was arrested and taken to jail. He invoked his Fifth Amendment right. He posted bond and was released from jail.
The man was contacted by a local news station and said that he was asking for peace and privacy for his family. A spokesperson for Seminole County Public Schools stated that the man is currently outside of his contract with the school district, so this is strictly a personal matter
The man is also the CEO of Red Suitcase Ministry, a Christian-based non-profit organization. The news station reached out to the organization for comment on the man’s arrest and they replied with a Bible verse, John 8:7.
