Man Arrested After Fatal Hit and Run Crash

As a driver, you need to understand the rules of the road. When you get into an accident, no matter how minor you may think it is, you need to stop at the accident scene. If you don’t, you could face legal drama.
A man from Honduras was recently arrested after hitting and killing a woman. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of June 11. The woman was jogging on Florida Parkway near Birchwood Circle. She was in a crosswalk when a pickup truck turned left. The driver failed to stop, hitting the woman.
The jogger, a 40-year-old woman from Kissimmee, was taken to a hospital, where she later died. The driver fled the accident scene but the Florida Highway Patrol later found him and arrested him. He was identified as a 21-year-old man from Honduras. He told troopers that he felt a bump but didn’t know what it was. The man faces multiple criminal charges, including driving without a license and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Hit and Run Crashes Involving Unlicensed Drivers
Hit and run accidents have been increasing year over year and now account for over 5% of all traffic fatalities in the United States. Hit and run crashes involving unlicensed drivers are a traffic safety concern in the United States. to licensed drivers, these drivers are statistically much more likely to flee the scene of an accident for several reasons. Common causes of these crashes include fear of arrest, lack of insurance, intoxication, outstanding warrants, or panic.
Unlicensed drivers play a huge role in hit and run crashes due to their fear of getting caught. Unlicensed drivers are more likely to commit hit and run accidents due to fear of legal consequences, such as vehicle impoundment, fines, or arrest. A study showed that a large number of hit and run offenders either had no license or were driving on a suspended license.
Why do they drive unlicensed? Common reasons include previous DUI convictions, failure to obtain insurance, or lack of eligibility for a license (perhaps due to immigration status or unpaid fines). Despite not having a license, some people still drive. Some may drive out of necessity, particularly in areas with limited public transportation, despite the legal risk.
However, unlicensed drivers are nearly twice as likely to be involved in fatal crashes compared to licensed drivers. Their lack of formal driver education and possible avoidance of routine vehicle maintenance may also contribute to unsafe driving behavior.
