6 Face Federal Drug Charges for Fentanyl Trafficking

Six people have been indicted on drug charges in Florida. A federal inmate, a Cuban national, and four other people are facing federal drug trafficking charges after they have been accused of multiple fentanyl distribution conspiracies throughout the Tampa area.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, the defendants conspired to distribute large amounts of fentanyl multiple times. All six people have been indicted, which means they have been formally accused of the crime. However, all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

According to investigators, the cases involve allegations of distributing or possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. Several of the defendants are also facing attempted distribution charges. It is unknown how the fentanyl was allegedly moved.

If convicted on all counts, each defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison. There is a possibility that they could spend their lives behind bars.

Those charged include two 43-year-olds from Tampa, a 24-year-old from Tampa, a 41-year-old from Port Richey, a 33-year-old inmate currently housed at Federal Correctional Institution Coleman, and a 34-year-old man who is a Cuban national.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the Tampa Police Department, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.

Selling to a minor: This is considered an extremely severe crime that can result in 25 years to life in prison as well as a $1 million fine.
